Troll Hide

A thick and sturdy hide. This is why trolls are so hard to kill.
Overview
Troll hide is a crafting material dropped by Trolls and, as a bonus drop, by Trollfish. Trolls can yield 1, 2, or 4 hide depending on their star level, making the material more plentiful from stronger variants. It is one of the earliest leather-type resources that supports a distinct armor line and several other recipes.
Its main use is in the Troll armor set: Troll Leather Hood, Troll Leather Tunic, Troll Leather Trousers, and Troll Hide Cape. These pieces are crafted at the Workbench, with the set starting at workbench level 2 for the base version and upgrading as the Workbench reaches higher levels. The set is notable for being the only true four-piece armor set that requires a cape to gain its full set bonus. Wearing the full set grants Sneak +15.
At base quality, the four pieces provide 6 armor each for the hood, tunic, and trousers, and 1 armor for the cape, for 19 armor total across the set. Higher upgrade levels increase both armor and durability, while keeping the set bonus unchanged:
- Quality 1: 19 total armor, 15 weight, Sneak +15
- Quality 2: 26 total armor, 15 weight, Sneak +15
- Quality 3: 33 total armor, 15 weight, Sneak +15
- Quality 4: 40 total armor, 15 weight, Sneak +15
The individual pieces remain light, with the hood weighing 1.0 and the tunic, trousers, and cape weighing 5.0, 5.0, and 4.0 respectively. This makes the set useful for players who want early protection without sacrificing mobility, especially when sneaking through dangerous areas.
Troll hide is also used in a small number of other recipes, including furniture and tools such as the Barber Kit, and it appears in the crafting cost for other items in some recipe lists. In practice, though, its most important role is as the backbone of the Troll armor set.
