Old Sign

Overview
The Old Sign is a found item that appears in the Bushlands and at the Great Bite. Signs are naturally limited on the island, and the Great Bite contains a larger number of them than the Bushlands.
It can be used as a rustic sign for decoration or navigation, and it is also part of the signwriting system. Crafting a jackaroo crossing sign at the Signwriting Table produces a new placeable sign, while burying an Old Sign in a dug hole creates an old-looking sign. That buried version only points in one direction, giving it a more weathered, improvised feel than standard signs.
A few practical points to keep in mind:
- The Old Sign does not appear in large quantities, so finding one may take some searching.
- The Great Bite is the best place to look if you want more than a single example.
- If you bury the sign to create the old-looking version, you must break it later to recover the Old Sign item.
- Because the item is scarce, players often use it for specific decorative builds rather than routine signage.
The item fits well with early settlement styling, especially in areas where a worn, lived-in look is preferred over clean manufactured signage.
