Overview

Quandong Tree is a fruit tree found naturally in the Plains biome, typically in separate patches across the map. Each tree yields 4 quandongs per harvest, and ripe fruit can be collected by hand or with the Har-Vac. In real-world Australia, quandong is a bush tucker fruit, which fits its in-game role as a harvestable native tree.

Like other fruit trees, Quandong Tree can be planted in any biome or on any soil type. A planted tree takes 12 days to mature, then produces fruit every 6 days after that. The Plant Book can be used on the tree to check its growth stage and fruit production cycle.

To grow a new Quandong Tree, fruit must be buried correctly so a sapling can form. Valid methods include:

  • Digging a hole with the shovel, dropping the fruit into it, and covering it back up with dirt.
  • Dropping the fruit on the ground, digging out the soil beneath it, and then replacing the soil on top.
  • Dropping the fruit on the ground and using a dirt printer over it.

When harvesting fruit trees, placement matters. Many players keep small orchards of around 10–20 trees, and a common layout is 2-wide rows with a 1-tile walkway between them. This is especially useful if you are mixing grass, fir, tropical, dirt, or mud between rows, since different ground types can affect what grows beneath the trees in Autumn. Another efficient setup is planting fruit trees on every tile in a row so dropped fruit lands just outside the last tree, making collection easier with the Har-Vac or by running along the outside of the orchard.

Quandong Tree can also be moved with Tree Pinchers or cut down with an axe or chainsaw. If chopped down, it does not drop wood; it only drops fruit if the fruit was ripe on the tree. This makes it a crop-like tree rather than a lumber source, so it is best treated as part of a managed orchard rather than a material tree.
