Recycling Bin

The Recycling Bin is a placeable storage and loot container that lets the player dispose of unwanted items and occasionally retrieve useful ones left behind. John teaches its recipe once his relationship with the player reaches 4 hearts. Unlike many containers, it is not a permanent source of random loot: it has a daily chance to contain something, and only one Recycling Bin on the island can roll loot each day even if several are placed.

A Recycling Bin can be placed anywhere on the island and picked up again after placement. It behaves like other movable storage furniture, and containers with items inside can be relocated using the Hand Trolley. The bin is emptied on Wednesday night, and no new items appear on Thursday. In practice, this makes Thursday the only day it will always be empty. Since items are cleared from all Recycling Bins at once, keeping multiple bins does not create multiple loot rolls. If more than one is placed, only one has a chance to generate an item on a new day.

The bin can reward a wide range of items, including tools, furniture, wallpapers, food, and clothing. Checking it regularly is worthwhile, especially on days other than Thursday, since valuable items may appear inside. There is also a 30% chance that the bin contains nothing at all on a given day. Depositing items into the bin does not appear to interfere with new item generation, as long as there is an empty slot available for a new item to appear in.
