Overview

The Signal Tower is a defensive utility building used to manipulate Dark Fog behavior, extend missile targeting, and distribute power. It has the longest connection range of any power distributor and a large power coverage area, while also charging Icarus like a Wireless Power Tower. Its durability is high enough that it can serve as a durable decoy on the front line, making it useful for farms, defenses, and base-clearing setups.

Its primary combat role is to attract nearby Dark Fog ground units. When enemies enter the tower’s signal radius, they will prioritize attacking it, which can pull attacks away from factories, turrets, and other vulnerable structures. In practice, this makes the tower a strong lure for building controlled kill zones, especially when supported by repair drones and nearby turrets. The tower itself has no combat capability, so it should always be paired with actual defenses if it is expected to hold a line.

Signal Towers also extend the effective reach of Missile Turrets. Any missile turret on the same planetary power grid can receive target information from the tower and fire at enemies within the tower’s signal radius, even if those targets are outside the turret’s normal ground range or line of sight. This lets missile defenses strike over long distances and across terrain that would otherwise block direct engagement. Placing a Signal Tower near an enemy Planetary Base also lets connected missile turrets bombard the base itself, making it a practical tool for dismantling Dark Fog bases without moving too close.

If the center of a Planetary Base lies within the Signal Tower’s outer signal circle, the base will remain in an active assault state and continue producing units. This can be exploited to keep a farming setup running continuously, but it can also cause fights to escalate if the tower is placed too close to hostile infrastructure. When the base is only partially within range, it may still remain active without directly drawing attacks to the base itself, allowing missile turrets to pick off units that come within signal range while reducing pressure on production buildings.

The tower’s combined functions make it especially valuable in late-game planetary defense. It can supply power, charge Icarus, draw aggro from Dark Fog ground units, and relay targeting data to missile turrets all at once. Because of that, it is commonly used to fortify remote outposts, build decoy lines, and prepare long-range attacks on hostile bases. Care should be taken when powering turrets through the tower during base-clearing preparations, since newly powered turrets may activate combat earlier than intended.
