Solar Sail Life
Overview
Solar sail life is a research term that extends the lifetime of Solar sails used by the Dyson Swarm. It starts at 90 minutes and can be increased to 150 minutes in fixed 300-second steps. Each level adds more time to every launched sail, making the swarm persist longer and improving the value of each
Longer sail lifetime has two direct effects. First, each EM-Rail Ejector contributes more generating capacity to the Dyson Swarm; for example, at 40% ejector uptime, a 300-second increase raises the swarm’s power capacity by 1.44 MW. Second, each Solar sail yields more total energy, by 10.8 MJ per sail for every 300 seconds added. The actual amount of power you can receive is still affected by Ray Transmission Efficiency.
- The first level requires Solar sail orbit system.
- The total research progression is:
- Base: 5400 s / 90 min
- Level 1: 5700 s / 95 min
- Level 2: 6000 s / 100 min
- Level 3: 6600 s / 110 min
- Level 4: 7200 s / 120 min
- Level 5: 8100 s / 135 min
- Level 6: 9000 s / 150 min
- Research costs increase as the lifetime is extended, with higher levels requiring larger batches of materials.
