Matter Recombinator is a Dark Fog drop material obtained only from Dark Fog units at level 15 or higher. Keeping it in Icarus’s inventory reveals the hidden Matter Recombination technology, which unlocks the Re-composing Assembler. It is also one of the components used to build that machine.

In practice, Matter Recombinator has a narrow but important role: it is a progression-gated component tied to Dark Fog combat and late-game production. Since it comes from Dark Fog enemies rather than a normal production chain, the item functions as both a loot reward and a technology trigger. Once the technology is unlocked, the item becomes part of the supply chain for the new assembler building.

• Carrying it in Icarus’s inventory unlocks Matter Recombination, the tech that enables the Re-composing Assembler.
