Overview

Conveyor Belt Mk.II is a mid-tier logistics building used to transport items across a factory at higher speed than Conveyor Belt Mk.I. Like other conveyor belts, it can connect directly to buildings such as miners, oil extractors, storage tanks, splitters, and logistics stations, and it can also interact with sorters to move items between belts and machines. It is both a building and a craftable material, and upgraded belts do not combine tiers: crafting Mk.II requires the previous belt tier as an input.

Its throughput is 12 items per second, or 720 items per minute. A full belt holds one item per tile and one item between tiles, so items on a full belt move at a steady pace of six tiles per second. Because of this throughput, a single Mk.II belt can be fully saturated by four Mining Machines covering 6 veins each.

Conveyor belts can be laid in three pathing modes by cycling with the default R key. This makes it possible to place belts as straight segments, right-angle turns, or diagonal paths. Diagonal routing is useful for bypassing difficult terrain, especially near planetary poles, while the more grid-aligned approach makes better use of space around buildings with square footprints. Belts can also be raised and lowered to pass over or under obstacles and to reach stacked ports on buildings such as splitters and storage buildings.

There is a slope limit for belt placement that remains locked at 0.5 rise over run until Super Magnetic Field Generator research is completed. Belt construction also supports vertical stacking: the baseline altitude limit is 12 above ground, allowing up to 13 belts one above another, and this limit can be increased through Vertical Construction research, with each level adding 6 to the maximum up to 48.

Belts can be upgraded or downgraded in place with the upgrade tool, which automatically replaces placed segments. Holding the modifier key while clicking a belt upgrades the entire connected belt within build range, and the same kind of mass action exists for deletion. It is also possible to disable building snapping while placing belts, which makes it easier to route them over buildings or other belts.

Items can be placed directly onto a belt by hovering over a belt section until the interaction box appears and then clicking the port. If the belt is empty, an item from the inventory can be inserted directly, and holding the mouse button allows repeated placement. Items can likewise be taken directly from belts using the same interaction.

When belts merge, only the direction that correctly joins the cargo flow is allowed, and a straight belt has priority over a belt merging into it. This makes merge direction important when combining lines from different production areas.
