Mass Construction

Overview

Mass construction is a research item that unlocks the Blueprint system and increases how many structures can be included in a single blueprint. Once researched, it lets players copy an existing layout, save it, and paste the same arrangement elsewhere as a single build operation.

Blueprints preserve both structure placement and most relevant settings, so they are useful for repeating factory modules without rebuilding each detail by hand. When a blueprint is placed, it reproduces the orientation and spacing of the original layout, which makes it especially effective for standardized production blocks, conveyor sections, and infrastructure patterns.

The system also stores configuration data for many building types, including production recipes, Sorter and Splitter filter settings, storage auto-use limits, item labels on conveyor belts, EM-Rail Ejector target orbit settings, and most Logistics Station options. Because Logistics Stations have many individual settings, capturing a frequently used setup in a blueprint can save a large amount of time.

Mass construction is gated by both the usual research prerequisites and a Metadata requirement. Metadata is earned through Matrix production, so advancing the relevant matrix lines speeds up access to higher blueprint capacity. The research levels increase the maximum number of structures that may be included in one blueprint:

  • Level 1: unlocks the Blueprint system and allows up to 150 structures per blueprint
  • Level 2: increases the limit to 300
  • Level 3: increases the limit to 900
  • Level 4: increases the limit to 3600
  • Level 5: removes the structure limit entirely

A blueprint can be saved even if it exceeds the current structure limit, but it cannot be built until the research level is high enough to support it. Blueprint storage itself is unlimited, so players can keep as many saved layouts as they want.

In practice, Mass construction is one of the most important quality-of-life unlocks in the game. It becomes increasingly valuable as factory size grows, since it turns complex builds into reusable templates and makes large-scale expansion much faster and more consistent.
