Mecha Core

Mecha Core is an upgrade for Icarus that improves the mech’s core energy capacity and combat performance. It is one of the fundamental progression upgrades because the mech’s core capacity governs how much energy can be stored for movement, combat, and long-distance travel, while also increasing the mech’s effective durability.

At the base level, Icarus has 100 MJ of Mecha Core capacity. Researching Mecha Core raises this value in steps, eventually reaching 3.16 GJ at level 5, and then continuing as an infinite research beyond that point. The upgrade also increases the mech’s fuel power generation, starting from 0.8 MW and rising alongside the research level. The tech tree notes a fixed 80 kW Core Power Gen as part of Icarus’s built-in energy system.

In practical terms, a larger Mecha Core makes Icarus much more comfortable to use during energy-intensive activities. A bigger energy reserve means the mech can spend longer flying, sailing between planets, fighting, and especially warping before needing to recharge. This becomes increasingly important for interstellar travel, since more capacity allows longer continuous warp distance and reduces the need to stop and recharge between jumps. A high-level Mecha Core is therefore especially valuable for efficient travel and for avoiding the repeated consumption of Space Warpers.

Mecha Core also improves combat capability. Every level raises the mech’s durability, and it increases the Mecha Laser’s range and damage as well. The early levels provide modest gains, but the upgrade continues to scale into the late game and remains researchable indefinitely. In effect, the capacity increase often matters more than the direct combat bonuses, because a larger core behaves like a larger energy buffer and improves survivability by keeping Icarus powered for longer.

Mecha Core is closely tied to the rest of Icarus’s development. It complements movement upgrades such as Drive Engine, since better flight and sailing become more useful when the mech can store enough energy to sustain them. It also works alongside inventory and logistics upgrades, but unlike those systems, Mecha Core directly defines how much energy the mech can hold and how resilient it is in extended operations.
