Overview

Magnetic Coil is a basic Tier 2 component used in a very wide range of crafting recipes. It is one of the earliest electromagnetic parts the player will produce in quantity, and it appears in many foundational logistics and production chains rather than in a single specialized branch. Because its recipe is simple and its throughput is high, it is usually easy to mass-produce with only a small number of assemblers.

Its production chain is straightforward: Magnetic Coil is crafted from Magnet and Copper Ingot. This makes it a convenient item to keep in bulk, since it is frequently requested by early buildings and components. It is also one of the main materials used to unlock and support the first stages of research through the Electromagnetic Matrix and the Matrix Lab. Outside of research, it is a key ingredient in early mining and smelting infrastructure, and later appears in advanced machine recipes such as Electric Motor and Electromagnetic Turbine.

A few practical points make Magnetic Coil production especially efficient:

  • On Assembling Machine Mk.I, the production and consumption rate for magnets and coils is 1.5/s, making it easy to match input and output rates with compact layouts.
  • For an Assembling Machine Mk.II to run continuously, Magnetic Coils require 3 smelters producing Magnets and 1 smelter producing Copper ingots.
  • For a full belt at tier 1, a common layout uses 9 magnet smelters and 4 assemblers arranged in a long horizontal line.
  • Doubling the Sorters for both the Magnet input and Magnetic Coil output helps handle the higher logistics rate in denser setups.
  • If the input and output Sorters are only 1 grid long, Assembling Machine Mk.I is sufficient; if they must reach 2 grids, use Assembling Machine Mk.II or two Assembling Machine Mk.I units.
  • Since the item is demanded so often in early construction, keeping at least one stack in inventory is convenient.

Magnetic Coil is best treated as a core intermediate rather than a luxury part. Once production is stabilized, it becomes one of the easiest components to buffer in large amounts, and that buffer pays off quickly because so many early and mid-game recipes draw from it.
