Overview

Missile Turrets are automated defensive buildings that fire guided missiles at both ground and airborne targets, making them one of the most versatile anti-enemy turrets in Dyson Sphere Program. They are the first turret type to deal explosive damage, so a single shot can hit more than one enemy at once and also physically push targets back on detonation. This gives them strong crowd control against Dark Fog ground assaults, especially when several turrets overlap their fire.

They consume Missile Set, Supersonic Missile Set, and Gravity Missile Set as ammunition. Higher-tier missiles do more damage, have larger blast radii, and travel faster, so they strike targets sooner and reduce the delay between firing and impact. The Missile Turret itself has a ground attack range of 60 m, an airborne target range of 180 m, and a space target range of 4200 m. Its default targeting behavior covers ground and low-altitude enemies, while high-air targeting can be enabled manually to engage Relay Stations.

A key strength of Missile Turrets is their interaction with Signal Towers. When a Signal Tower is powered on the same electrical grid, it can relay enemy positions to all Missile Turrets on that grid, allowing them to fire at targets far outside their normal range. In practice, this means a turret can strike enemies anywhere on the planet as long as the target is within the information network of a Signal Tower. This also applies to Planetary Bases, making long-range sieges possible if a Signal Tower is placed and powered within range. Once a missile has already locked onto a Dark Fog unit or base, it will continue tracking that target even if the Signal Tower is destroyed.

Because missiles take time to travel, Missile Turrets are often most effective when backed by additional defenses or upgraded ammunition. This delay matters most when fighting mobile enemies or distant structures. If a missile destroys its original space target before impact, it will retarget another enemy within 1000 m instead of wasting the shot. Against established Relay Stations, be aware that destroying them increases Dark Fog Hive threat; however, destroying approaching Relays before they establish on the planet does not cause that threat increase.

  • Their long-range coordination with Signal Towers makes them useful both for base defense and for offensive planetary bombardment.
  • Since they use complex and resource-intensive ammunition, production planning is important if you intend to rely on them heavily.
  • If you expect frequent space attacks, keeping enough Missile Turrets online before enemy fleets arrive helps reduce pressure on your Planetary Shield Generator and the rest of your factory.
