Overview

Water is one of the core natural resources in Dyson Sphere Program. It can be extracted from water oceans by placing Water Pumps on suitable planets, and it is effectively unlimited; its output is only limited by the number of pumps installed. Water production is affected by the Veins Utilization upgrade chain, with each level adding a flat +10% to production.

Water is used heavily in chemical production throughout the game. Early on, it is an important ingredient in oil processing toward Titanium Crystals, and it is also used to produce Organic Crystals and Sulfuric Acid in Chemical Plants when natural sources are not yet available. Later, it remains relevant for Titanium Glass, which is needed for advanced progression and for crafting Small Carrier Rockets. Because Sulfuric Acid becomes available from natural sources on some planets, Water may become less important for that recipe, but it never stops having uses entirely.

Water can be obtained on planets with water oceans, including Mediterranean, Ice Field Gelisol, Oceanic Jungle, Ocean World, Prairie, and Red Stone planet types. Since the resource is unlimited, players often choose between processing it locally on the source planet or shipping it elsewhere for use in a larger factory. In practice, the best choice depends on logistics and what other nearby resources are available.

  • Water is not depleted by mining; only pump capacity matters.
  • If Water Pumps are placed first, the land beneath them can still be filled in afterward and the pumps will continue to function.
  • Water is often worth keeping near early oil refining setups, since it is used directly in several chemical chains.
  • If a production line still needs continuous Sulfuric Acid output, keeping a local Water supply can simplify Titanium Glass production later.
