Information Matrix

The Information Matrix is the purple science matrix used for high-tech research in the Matrix Lab. It is one of the five basic source codes that keep the CentreBrain simulating, and it becomes a major bottleneck once research and logistics move beyond the starter planet. Its production is built around two separate chains: a metal side centered on Processors, and an oil/chemical side centered on Particle Broadband. Both chains have long craft times, so reaching good output usually requires more assemblers than earlier matrix types.

Producing Information Matrices demands a large amount of high-purity silicon. In practical terms, this means that a starter system with limited silicon deposits will usually need offworld mining and smelting to support stable production. One matrix consumes 10 High-Purity Silicon, which corresponds to 20 Silicon Ore, so the silicon supply line must be planned with industrial-scale throughput in mind.

The Processor chain is straightforward but resource-hungry. Working backward, Processors consume Iron Ore, Copper Ore, and Silicon ore, so their production benefits from a dedicated silicon operation rather than attempting to smelt silicon from stone on-site. Because Processors are also used in many other recipes, including later Gravity Matrix-related production, it is often worth building this line larger than the immediate Information Matrix requirement suggests.

The Particle broadband chain is more complicated. It requires Carbon Nanotube, Crystal Silicon, and Plastic, which in turn pulls in Titanium, Silicon, Stone, Coal, Crude Oil, and Water across the broader supply chain. The most troublesome part is usually the Carbon nanotube input, since that depends on Graphene and can make the whole line difficult if Graphene is produced from Crude Oil. Later alternatives can reduce the pressure on that route, but in the early and midgame the choice is often between building a large, permanent Graphene supply or a smaller stopgap line.

Information Matrices are used for important research milestones in the Matrix Lab, including Mecha Core Mk.IV, Gravity Matrix research, Quantum Chip technology, and Vertical Launching Silo technology. The Mecha Core Mk.IV upgrade is especially important because it unlocks interstellar warpers and makes interstellar expansion practical. Since the matrix also supports the technologies that lead toward the next science tier and the construction of a permanent Dyson Sphere, it sits at a critical transition point in progression.

A few practical points make the difference between a frustrating and a smooth setup:

• Plan for offworld silicon production early; the starter planet usually cannot supply enough on its own.
• Build Processor production with extra capacity, since Processors are used in many later recipes.
• Keep the Particle broadband line limited unless you are deliberately scaling toward very high purple science output.
• If local oil, coal, or power become strained, expand power generation before the matrix line stalls.
• Once Mecha Core Mk.IV is unlocked, interstellar expansion can relieve pressure on scarce silicon and simplify later production chains.
