Overview

Stone is one of the core basic natural resources in Dyson Sphere Program. It is commonly found across the galaxy on rocky planets and can be harvested from Stone veins with the Mining Machine, or collected manually by the mech from rocks and pebbles scattered on the surface. As a resource, Stone is an impure form of silicon that can be refined with enough effort, and it also has high compressive strength, which makes it a useful material for foundation-related construction.

Stone is smelted in the Smelter into Stone Brick and Glass. It can also be used as a substitute source for Silicon Ore and Sulfuric Acid when natural deposits or oceans have not yet been discovered. In practice, these alternative production routes are mainly temporary solutions: Stone-to-Silicon Ore conversion is slow and inefficient, and Stone-based Sulfuric Acid should be replaced by pumping from a Sulfuric Acid Ocean as soon as one becomes available.

Because Stone is so common, a single vein can support multiple Mining Machines. This makes it easy to scale up early production, especially for Stone Brick and other infrastructure materials. However, its role changes over the course of the game: Stone remains useful for Glass well into the late game, while demand for Sulfuric Acid usually drops sharply once interstellar supply is established. Even so, it is worth keeping a healthy reserve of Stone, since Glass demand rises as Dyson Sphere construction accelerates.

  • Each level of the Veins Utilization upgrade increases mining rate by a flat 10% and reduces consumption rate by 6% multiplicatively.
  • Stone is a good early-game resource to automate because it supports both construction materials and temporary fallback production chains.
  • The Stone-to-Silicon Ore route should be replaced by direct Silicon Ore mining as soon as possible.
  • Stone continues to matter after Sulfuric Acid oceans are found, since Glass remains important for late-game and post-clear progression.
