Overview

Glass is an early- to mid-game crafting material made by processing Stone in a Smelter. It is an amorphous optical medium with an irregular structure, and it is used broadly in the production of optical components and several buildings. Because of that, it is one of the materials that quickly becomes part of a stable factory supply chain rather than a one-off construction item.

Its first major use is in factory infrastructure: Glass is required for buildings such as the Matrix Lab, Chemical Plant, and Plasma Exciter. As a result, it is often demanded repeatedly during early expansion, when production lines for science, chemistry, and power infrastructure are being assembled. Later, its importance increases again because Solar Sails consume large amounts of it, so a serious Dyson Swarm setup usually needs a dedicated Glass production line before sail construction ramps up.

A few practical points make Glass worth planning around:

  • It is produced from Stone, so the long-term demand for Stone is not just for Stone Brick and Sulfuric Acid, but also for Glass.
  • Stone brick has relatively low demand after the early game, while Sulfuric acid has alternative production methods, so Glass usually becomes the main end use for Stone.
  • Since Solar Sails can consume Glass in large quantities, production should be scaled before you fully commit to Dyson Swarm construction.
  • Because it is used in both buildings and advanced solar infrastructure, Glass is a common bottleneck if stone processing is left at only a minimal level.

In practice, a good early factory will treat Glass as part of its core mall supply, alongside other common building materials. Once the Dyson Sphere effort begins, the balance changes: Glass shifts from a convenient construction input to a high-volume industrial material. Keeping a steady output avoids interruptions when assembling optical components, constructing facilities, or feeding sail production for the swarm.
