Grating Crystal

Optical Grating Crystal is a rare resource mined from optical grating crystal veins. These veins are usually found in star systems other than the starting system, and no clear correlation has been established between their appearance and planetary factors.

Its most important role is as an ingredient in high-end manufacturing. Optical Grating Crystal is required to craft the Advanced Mining Machine, making it an essential material for late-game mining expansion and large-scale resource extraction. It is also used in Photon Combiner production, and it can replace both Prism and Titanium Crystal in certain recipes.

In practice, its value comes less from its direct use and more from the way it removes bottlenecks in advanced logistics and production:

• It can substitute for Prism, but Prism is easy to produce from Stone, so this is usually not the main reason to use it. The exception is very large-scale Solar Sail production, where Photon combiner output must be heavily expanded. In that situation, Optical Grating Crystal can significantly reduce the number of production buildings needed, saving space and helping reduce performance strain.
• It can substitute for Titanium Crystal when crafting Casimir Crystal. Since Titanium Crystal is often made through Organic Crystal synthesis from Crude Oil, the process is cumbersome and power-hungry. Using Optical Grating Crystal skips that chain and makes mass production of Casimir Crystal much easier.
• It is mandatory for Advanced Mining Machine production. Although this technology is unlocked late, the machine greatly reduces the labor of placing and managing miners, making Optical Grating Crystal a strategic enabler for endgame mining infrastructure.

Because its main recipes are either convenience upgrades or late-game scaling tools, Optical Grating Crystal is often somewhat unnecessary in small and medium factories. However, once production reaches a high enough level, especially with strong Vein Utilization and wide expansion, its ability to compress production chains and reduce building count makes it far more attractive.
