Overview

The Laser Turret is a defensive building that fires high-energy lasers directly at targets without using ammunition. It is the laser-based counterpart to the Gauss Turret and fits well into low-maintenance defensive lines because it removes the need for ammo production and logistics. Its attacks are precise and single-target, so it is best used where concentrated damage matters more than area coverage.

A Laser Turret can attack only one target at a time, and it can hit ground targets and low-flying targets. It has a 40 m defense range, 500 hp durability, a 3.00 MW operating power draw, and 120 kW standby power. Its DPS is 240.0 hp/s, which is strong enough to outperform a Gauss Turret equipped with top-tier ammunition. However, that performance comes with heavy electricity demand, so it works best when the power grid is stable and well supplied.

Because the Laser Turret does not use ammo, it is especially convenient to deploy in places where logistics are awkward or where a compact defense is preferred. This also makes it very effective for fighting the Dark Fog early, since it can handle weaker Dark Fog units without requiring ammunition production or distribution. In addition, its damage does not create the kind of splash collateral that would damage Dark Fog buildings outside the engagement area, making it a good choice for controlled Dark Fog farming.

  • Energy Weapon Damage research increases the Laser Turret’s damage by a percentage of its original damage, not its current damage. Each level raises its DPS by 12, even though the turret menu may be the only place where the improvement is reflected clearly.
  • The weapon starts at 120.0 hp damage and reaches 264.0 hp at higher cumulative research levels, with intermediate increases following the energy-weapon damage upgrades.
  • Its high power consumption is often worth the convenience, but only if the power supply is steady. Destroying Planetary Bases and building Geothermal Power Stations over them can provide a strong power foundation for Laser Turrets.
  • If power output cannot be adjusted smoothly, such as when using direct Gamma Ray Receiver power, Accumulator support can help stabilize operation.
  • The turret’s standby consumption is significant, so it is most efficient when it is firing often. In low-activity defenses, the power cost can be harder to justify.
  • It is shortest-range among turrets, but its range is still longer than Dark Fog ground units, so it will not be attacked safely from outside its reach.

In practice, the Laser Turret is best deployed in small numbers at hot spots that face frequent attacks, or as a main ground-defense option when the power infrastructure is already strong, such as with fusion power, Dyson Swarm, Dyson Shell, or Artificial Star-based supply.
