Gauss Turret

Overview
Gauss Turrets are the first automatic sentries available for defending against the Dark Fog. They are basic, inexpensive to scale, and intended for early base defense, especially when hostile ground units begin attacking the factory perimeter. Although they are the simplest turret type, they remain useful later as part of layered defenses, particularly when supported by heavier weapons.

Gauss Turrets use ammo boxes loaded directly into the turret. The standard ammunition types are

Their recipe requires four different components and takes 4 s to craft, so they are somewhat more complex than very basic infrastructure, but still straightforward to mass-produce once the needed materials are automated. In practice, they fit well into early factory defense because they are cheap enough to build in quantity while still providing reliable damage against the first Dark Fog assaults.
A few practical points are worth keeping in mind:
- Gauss Turrets are most effective in the early game, before Dark Fog waves become too large.
- They are best used in rows or along the edge of a defended area, with ammunition delivered by conveyor belt.
- Holding the left mouse button while placing them can create a line of turrets quickly, and the placement can be rotated if needed.
- Since their shots are single-target, they become less efficient against large swarms than area-damage defenses.
- Once larger Dark Fog groups begin arriving, Missile Turrets are commonly added alongside them to handle clustered enemies and provide knockback.
- Higher-tier ammo matters: Magnum Ammo Boxes provide the lowest output, while Titanium Ammo Boxes and Superalloy Ammo Boxes greatly improve damage, which allows Gauss Turrets to remain useful even against tougher Dark Fog units with armor.
Because of their simplicity, low cost, and easy ammo logistics, Gauss Turrets are often the foundation of the first real defensive line and remain a dependable part of mixed turret defenses throughout the game.
