Muckroot

Muckroot is a early-game edible plant food that is commonly found buried in the Sandstone Biome. It can be harvested from buried Muckroot plants and also obtained by digging up buried item tiles that happen to contain it. Because it is often available near the starting area, it serves as one of the first reliable food sources before farm infrastructure is established.

In the base game, Muckroot can also appear from the Printing Pod or Mini-Pod as part of a supply packet, usually granting 6 units for 4800 kcal. In the DLC, this print option is tied to either having discovered the item already or surviving long enough for it to unlock naturally after 500 cycles.

Muckroot is also used in cooking: with a Gas Range, it can be combined with Nosh Beans to make Curried Beans. This makes it relevant even after a colony moves beyond raw forage food, since it can be turned into a more advanced meal instead of being eaten directly.

A few practical notes apply when relying on Muckroot:

• It is a foraged resource, so buried deposits in the Sandstone Biome are the main source of early copies.
• Because it can be printed, it remains available even if nearby deposits are exhausted or difficult to reach.
• It is primarily useful as emergency or transitional food, especially in the early game when farms, ranching, or cooking setups are not yet stable.

One in-game note sometimes associated with Muckroot is that its description does not match its behavior in every respect: neither Muckroot nor Curried Beans affects the Flatulent trait.
