Overview

The Mini-Pod is a building used on other asteroid maps to stand in for the Printing Pod. Each planet can only have one Mini-Pod, and all Mini-Pods and Printing Pods share the same printing preparation timer and options: when choosing the supply pod contents or duplicant, the available prints are identical, and once all options are accepted or rejected, every printing facility enters cooldown. After construction, the Mini-Pod must be activated by a duplicant, and it can also be inspected like other buildings.

In normal play, the Mini-Pod cannot be ordered for deconstruction. However, since its construction material determines the structure itself, it can be destroyed by damaging the building and then rebuilt elsewhere, which resets the per-planet limit. This makes it possible to replace an existing Mini-Pod position if needed, though the process is not intended as routine dismantling.

The Mini-Pod has a few practical considerations worth keeping in mind:

  • It is slightly smaller than the Printing Pod.
  • It is best built with Granite or Ceramic for the decor bonus, unless the area already has a recreation room.
  • Its overheat temperature is 75 °C and its melting point is 160 °C, so it is unsuitable for very hot environments.
  • In the DLC, it can be made from Plastium, which raises its heat tolerance significantly and makes it suitable for extreme heat.
  • Plastic is often difficult to obtain early on, so material choice can be a limiting factor.
  • A low-melting construction material can preserve some flexibility later, since the building can be destroyed and rebuilt if necessary.

Mini-Pod was previously called Porta-Pod, and originally it could not be constructed.
