Overview

Sedimentary Rock is a common mineral resource in Oxygen Not Included. It does not have any special decor or thermal advantages, and its availability is only modest compared with other building materials. Because of that, it is usually best reserved for basic construction close to where it is mined, such as ladders or tiles, so more valuable minerals can be saved for more important projects and duplicant travel time can be reduced.

It has a few practical uses beyond ordinary construction:

  • Hatches and Stone Hatches can eat Sedimentary Rock and excrete Coal. Feeding it to them also increases the chance that Stone Hatch eggs will be laid.
  • A Rock Crusher can turn Sedimentary Rock into Sand at a 1:1 mass ratio: 100 kg Sedimentary Rock = 100 kg Sand.
  • A Rock Crusher can also produce Sedimentary Rock from Fossil: 100 kg Fossil = 5 kg Lime + 95 kg Sedimentary Rock.
  • In Spaced Out!, it can be harvested from renewable space POIs on rocket missions, especially Rocky Asteroid Fields and Gilded Asteroid Fields.

When gathered from harvestable space POIs, Sedimentary Rock is obtained at a fixed temperature independent of the POI itself, so a single field may contain very hot or very cold materials. On rockets with a fueled Drillcone, remaining mass in a POI can be collected until that POI reaches its maximum capacity again, with mass refilling over time.
