Cool Pool Biome

Overview
Cool Pool Biome is a cold, salt-water-rich biome found in the Ocean Biome. It is characterized by pools of Salt Water and, in colder variants, Brine or frozen terrain, making it a major early source of salt water and related materials in ocean-adjacent worlds. It does not generate Metal Ores, so it is not a source of metal progression on its own.
The biome appears in several variants with different temperatures and features. The base version is a human-warm salt water region. The Hot variant is warmer than the base version and includes both the Salt Deposit and Salt Water Pool features. The Deep variant also contains the Salt Deposit feature, but it does not include Bleach Stone. The Slush variant is colder than the base version; part of its Salt Water turns into Brine, and it has no terrain feature. The Frozen variant is colder still, and all liquids are frozen into Brine Ice. It also has no terrain feature.
Cool Pool Biome can contain several useful deposits and environmental materials:
- Salt Water, which may convert into Brine in colder areas
- Salt deposits in the Hot and Deep variants
- Bleach Stone deposits in some areas
- Carbon Dioxide, Sand, Fossil, and Sedimentary Rock in associated pool features
The biome’s resource composition varies by variant, but the overall pattern is consistent: it is a salt-water biome with cold-adjacent behavior rather than a metal- or ore-heavy region. In low-temperature areas of the Tide Pool, Salt Water turns into Brine, which is important when planning pumps, plumbing, and thermal control.
From a practical standpoint, the biome is valuable because it offers renewable access to Salt Water and, depending on the variant, Salt and Bleach Stone deposits. Since the area is extremely cold in its Slush and Frozen forms, exploration is much easier if your colony has a way to avoid the athletics penalty from low temperatures. The biome is also a place to look for Bammoths and their variants, which are a renewable source of several useful materials and the only renewable source of one resource obtained by crushing Regal Bammoth Crest in a Rock Crusher. Plume Squash is another useful plant found in this biome and can serve as a food alternative to Nosh Sprouts.
Overall, the Cool Pool Biome is best treated as a cold oceanic resource zone: rich in salt water and salt-related materials, dangerous for unprepared duplicants, and especially important for colonies that need sustainable access to Brine, Salt Water, or biome-specific critter and plant resources.
