Mushroom Peccary

Mushroom Peccary is a fungal variant of the Peccary found in Abiotic Factor. It appears in infected areas and can also replace normal Peccary spawns during a Spore Event. One can be found in Cascade Laboratories, while many can be found in the Mycofields. The GATE Compendium classifies it as IS-0178-B and notes that its storage requires strict sterility and regular removal of mycelium, spores, growths, and blooms.

In combat, Mushroom Peccary changes its behavior based on how close the player is when engagement begins. At longer range it uses a tackle attack that can be dodged by sidestepping. At close range it uses a melee attack that cannot be dodged, though it can be blocked with a shield. If the player keeps running after the initial engagement, it will follow up after a short delay with a jump attack that can be avoided by maintaining distance and running sideways.

Its drops reflect its fungal diet and biology. It always yields Raw Peccary Chop and can also drop Carbuncle Mushroom, Raw Alien Drumstick, and a Mushroom Peccary Skull.

• It must be placed next to a source of Tainted Water and away from any light source.
• The tainted water source can be environmental or a deployable liquid container.
• When placed next to a container, it uses 750 ml of tainted water to grow 4 Carbuncle Mushrooms.
• One barrel is enough for 13 growths.
• It can be obtained by salvaging a Pocket Watch at a Repair and Salvage Station.
• Pocket Watches can be found in The Train, Flathill, and in Presents in the Furniture Store.
• It can be traded with Marion for a Reinforced Hose.

The Peccary name comes from the animal of the same name, and the in-game creature was named before its true size was fully appreciated.
