Furniture Store

Overview
The Furniture Store is a Portal World in Anteverse 23, presented as a luxury furniture outlet that has suffered a catastrophic collapse. In practice, it is one of the more practical portal locations to explore for unique furnishings, but it is also one of the darkest and most dangerous, with very little ambient lighting and Zombies crowding the outside of the building.
The store’s interior is almost completely unlit, so a Headlamp or Flashlight is strongly recommended, and bringing both is ideal. Aside from the occasional lamp, the only natural light comes from lightning flashes outside, which makes navigation especially difficult on the lower levels. The area is filled with furniture styles not found elsewhere, and these items can be packaged for collection. The site is also notable for containing a functional Coffee Vending Machine, allowing Money to be exchanged for a Mug of Coffee.
To progress, the player must find and press five buttons to power the elevator in the center of the store. The button locations are randomized from a set of possible spawn points each time the Portal World is entered, and leaving and returning reshuffles them. Once the first button is pressed, Zombies begin spawning inside, and each additional button press increases their spawn rate. Until that point, the store is empty of enemies inside, so it is worth looting as much as possible before starting the puzzle. The enemy presence is limited to Zombies; they do not appear until the button sequence begins.
Once all five buttons are pressed, the elevator can be activated to reach the top floor. There, the player can briefly interact with an Email Terminal before exiting. The top of the elevator shaft is completely safe and includes two power outlets, making it a useful temporary base location. No enemies can enter that space, and Leyak, Assault Events, and Portal Storms do not reach it. Zombies also do not spawn at all if the switch puzzle is bypassed by using alternate vertical movement.
Practical considerations for the store include:
- Bring a fully charged light source and, if possible, a second one for backup.
- A melee weapon is important once Zombies begin spawning; wide-swing weapons are especially effective against groups.
- A shield can block Zombie attacks, and the Golf Club can stun them.
- If the Angel Ring is equipped, the wearer can fly to the top of the elevator shaft without pressing the buttons, avoiding combat entirely.
- It is often best to identify all five button locations before pressing any of them, then move through the store quickly, starting from the basement and working upward.
- Dropping heavy loot in the elevator can help avoid over-encumbrance, especially since many of the unique items found here are bulky.
According to GATE’s classification, the location is Anteverse 23, and Dr. Manse describes it as one of Earth’s alternate futures. It is also noted as being located somewhere in Boston.
