Niketas
Overview
Niketas is the founder and spiritual head of Canaan, encountered as a hostile creature in the large church at the top of the village. He presents himself as a follower of Petrae and a prophet to the people of Canaan, using the artifact he calls the Lodestone and his unusual pyrotechnic talents to hold sway over the village. His backstory is deliberately obscure, with little known about his life before Canaan, suggesting that some of his history may have been erased.
In combat, Niketas is dangerous less because of his own mobility than because of the support around him and the damage type he brings to the fight. He is highly durable and can absorb a great deal of punishment, while his followers can overwhelm an unprepared player. His ranged attacks use explosive holy grenades, which deal holy damage that ignores armor and can rapidly kill a player if they are caught out in the open. He tends to move frequently before throwing these grenades, so closing in blindly is risky.
- Clear out his followers before committing to the fight; they are often the more immediate threat.
- Stay alert for his grenade throws, since the holy damage bypasses armor.
- Ranged weapons and thrown explosives are generally safer than prolonged melee pressure.
- Slushie Bombs are especially effective, as freezing him in place creates a strong opening for follow-up attacks.
- Melee is possible, but only when his movement is controlled and his throw timing is accounted for.
Defeating Niketas yields several guaranteed drops. He drops Silver Scrap and The Diary of Niketas - 4, and his harvestable drops include Human Skull, Tech Scrap, and Preacher's Hat. These rewards reflect both his status within Canaan and the ritualized, cult-like identity of his faction.
His presence in the church and his role as the preacher of Canaan tie directly into the village’s lore. He is described as the person who led the flock toward Paradise through the Lodestone after learning of Petrae from Sydyk, a former Order Inquisitor. This places Niketas at the center of Canaan’s belief system, making him not only a combat encounter but also one of the key figures in the settlement’s story.
