Overview

Ruby Shard is a mineral item obtained from Ruby and used in mine-related progression. It is a crafting and utility resource rather than a placeable item, and its main purpose is tied to gemstone processing and the elevator console in the Mine Deed.

Ruby Shards are acquired in two ways. Breaking a Ruby gemstone with a weapon or tool yields one shard, and throwing the gemstone into the Crusher on a mine level also produces shards. This makes Ruby Shard part of the normal mining loop: first collect the gemstone, then either process it directly or break it yourself, depending on what you need at the moment.

One of its most notable uses is in the Mine elevator console. Inserting four Ruby Shards changes the Mine’s level to the Undergrove for the day. This change lasts only for that day and cannot be changed again until the next day begins. The effect resets when loading a new day, so the item is best treated as a temporary access key for that destination rather than a permanent unlock.

Ruby Shard can also appear for sale on Jimmy’s Boat as part of the shop’s random rotation, making it possible to buy when mining supplies are inconvenient to gather. Because the stock rotates, it is not a guaranteed purchase on any given visit.

  • Break a Ruby gemstone with a weapon or tool to get 1 Ruby Shard.
  • Throw a Ruby gemstone into the Crusher at a mine level to obtain shards.
  • Insert 4 Ruby Shards into the mine elevator console to set the Mine to the Undergrove for the day.
  • The Undergrove change lasts only until the next day and cannot be altered again that day.
  • Ruby Shard may be sold on Jimmy’s Boat during its random stock rotation.
