Crystal Shell Set

Crystal Shell Set is the highest-tier shell ammo, offering very high single-shot damage and a large explosion radius. It is produced from Crystal Explosive Units, which in turn require Casimir Crystals, making the ammo expensive and difficult to mass-produce. A Shell Set contains 12 shells.

In practice, its main drawback is opportunity cost: even High-Explosive Shell Set already has enough power to destroy Dark Fog ground units in a single hit under normal play, so Crystal Shell Set is often excessive unless the player is deliberately optimizing for overkill. It can still be fully leveraged when equipped on Icarus during attacks on Planetary Bases, but by the time it becomes available, combat drones usually provide most of the offensive power, so its overall usefulness remains limited. Its very high damage also causes Dark Fog to gain experience quickly, since experience increases with the square of the damage taken. This is usually a disadvantage before Mission Completed!, but after that it can be helpful when farming drops.

• Proliferating ammo grants additional shots per box, based on the extra products bonus from the proliferation level.
• The ammo’s large explosion radius can be a small advantage over cheaper shell types, but the production burden is still the main limiting factor.
