Overview

Launch Pad (Legacy) is the legacy export building used to send items off-map as part of a sector's export economy. In gameplay terms it functions as an export node: when supplied with items it consumes them and contributes to the sector's exported item count. The unit is categorized as a legacy block and retains behavior specific to older releases; it is kept in the codebase under a distinct internal identifier to avoid conflicts with later revisions.

At peak (maximum) efficiency—a state defined as having no wasted idle time once its cooldown ends—a Launch Pad consumes around 3.33 items per second, which translates to 200 items per minute added to the sector's exports. That 200 items/min figure is the practical export throughput you can expect from a single Launch Pad operating continuously at full efficiency.

Operational and compatibility notes:

  • The Launch Pad responds to Overdrive effects; boosting its speed with Overdrive will increase its consumption and export throughput accordingly.
  • Landing Pads are not affected by Overdrive, so Overdrive modules will not change the behavior of those separate pad types.
  • The current implementation of the Launch Pad in the game files is internally named advancedLaunchPad. This naming prevents conflicts with the legacy Launch Pad implementation that existed between Versions 6.0 and 7.0.

Practical considerations for players:

  • To achieve the stated throughput, ensure a steady supply of items that matches the pad’s consumption rate so it never idles during cooldown windows.
  • Use Overdrive to increase export throughput when you need higher short-term export rates, but plan power and Overdrive resource use accordingly.
  • Treat the Launch Pad as part of a sector-level export strategy rather than a local storage or processing node; its primary role is moving items out of the sector economy.
