Storage Tile
Overview
Storage Tile is a storage building that fits into tight spaces such as rocket interiors while still providing item storage. Unlike a Storage Bin, it can store only one type of resource, and a Duplicant must perform an operation to change the selected resource. This makes it useful when a compact, dedicated stockpile is needed without consuming floor space.
The building also has the same basic physical behavior as other tiles in that it blocks the passage of gases and liquids and does not allow light to pass through. Under sufficiently high liquid pressure, however, a Tile can be damaged and begin leaking small amounts of liquid. The pressure threshold depends entirely on the construction material, and walls or floors four tiles thick prevent leakage under any pressure.
When used for logistics, Storage Tile behaves a little differently from what its appearance suggests. Delivery, Duplicant interaction, and drop-off all occur at the second tile from the bottom-left, and the operation animation can be misleading. This matters when placing loaders, sweepers, or other adjacent machinery around it.
A few practical points are worth keeping in mind:
- Storage Tiles are especially useful in cramped layouts where a normal storage setup would waste space.
- Because only one resource type can be assigned at a time, they are better for dedicated buffers than for general-purpose dumping.
- Atmo Suits ignore the capacity limit.
- An Auto-Sweeper accessing the building from the bottom-right sometimes fails to take items out of it.
- When storing Atmo Suits and similar items, the capacity is measured in units rather than kilograms; for example, a limit set to 1 kg can still accept 1 unit, which is 200 kg for an Atmo Suit.
Since Storage Tile blocks light and seals gases and liquids, it can also be used as part of enclosed builds where a normal storage object would otherwise create unwanted openings. Hatches cannot hide in Tile, so it does not provide a hiding place for them.
