Textile Loom

Overview

A Textile Loom is a clothing production building used to turn Reed Fiber from Thimble Reed into wearable Duplicant clothing. It is one of the core textile-processing stations in the base game, bridging plant fiber harvesting and the creation of equipment that can be equipped by duplicants.

Its main purpose is straightforward: once Reed Fiber has been collected, the Textile Loom spins it into garments rather than leaving it as raw material. This makes it an important step in building a clothing supply chain, especially in colonies that want to improve duplicant comfort and protection through crafted apparel instead of relying only on found items.

Because the loom consumes Reed Fiber, it depends on a steady source of Thimble Reed. In practical play, that means it works best when paired with a farm or other reliable fiber supply. If Reed Fiber production is limited, the loom becomes a bottleneck for clothing progression, so it is usually worth planning fiber farming ahead of time before trying to mass-produce outfits.

  • The Textile Loom uses Reed Fiber as its input.
  • Its output is wearable clothing for duplicants.
  • It is tied directly to Thimble Reed cultivation, since that plant provides the needed fiber.
  • It is most useful in colonies that want to convert plant resources into equipment rather than storing them as raw materials.

In terms of colony planning, the loom fits into the broader industrial progression where agricultural resources are turned into useful manufactured goods. Since the building produces clothing rather than general-purpose materials, it is best placed near other production structures and close to storage for fiber and finished apparel. That reduces hauling time and keeps clothing production moving smoothly.

The Textile Loom is especially valuable once a colony has enough food and oxygen stability to support more specialized production. At that point, turning Reed Fiber into clothing becomes a natural next step, helping duplicants stay better equipped as the colony expands into harsher environments and longer-term infrastructure.
