Smelter

Overview
The Smelter is a crafting structure used to turn ore and scrap into metal bars by burning Coal. It currently processes Copper Ore, Tin Ore, Silver Ore, and Iron Ore. The finished bars are ejected from the front through the sloped output chute, while ore is loaded into the round opening on the left and Coal into the rectangular opening on the right.
A Smelter is unlocked when the player acquires a Surtling Core, and it must be built near a Workbench. It can be placed directly on terrain or on stone structures, but not on wooden structures. That limitation can be worked around by leveling or raising the ground with a Hoe so it lines up with wooden floors.
- Capacity: 10 ore and 20 Coal
- Fuel use: about 1 Coal every 15 seconds
- Output rate: about 1 metal bar every 30 to 31 seconds, depending on source data
- It can be destroyed or dismantled with a Hammer to recover all materials, making it practical to swap between a Smelter and a Charcoal Kiln as needed
Like other processing structures, the Smelter works faster while the player is sleeping. It also needs adequate venting above it; if smoke cannot escape, smelting stops. While active, it emits a fire effect in a roughly 4.5-meter radius from any side.
