Corewood

Corewood is a basic wood resource obtained from pine trees and their stumps. It appears in the Black Forest and can be gathered relatively early, making it one of the first materials that opens up a wider range of crafting and construction options beyond simple starter gear.

It is collected by chopping down pines or removing their stumps, and pines can also be grown from pine cones with a Cultivator. A Stone Axe is sufficient for harvesting it, and several sources also indicate that a better axe works as well. Corewood can also be recovered by dismantling certain generated wooden structures.

Corewood is used in a large number of early- and mid-game recipes, especially for tools, weapons, and structural pieces. Its crafting uses include:

• Bronze Pickaxe
• Cultivator
• Finewood Bow
• Iron Pickaxe
• Stagbreaker

It is also used in building recipes such as:

• Campfire
• Butcher's Table
• Log beam 2 m
• Log beam 4 m
• Log pole 2 m
• Log pole 4 m
• Sharp Stakes

Because of its role in so many structures, Corewood is one of the more useful construction materials once you begin working in and around the Black Forest. Log pieces and sharp stakes make it particularly valuable for defensive bases and fortified layouts, while the Campfire and Butcher's table expand practical base functions.

Corewood also has a refining use: it can be fed into a Charcoal Kiln to produce Coal, which is then used to smelt ores in a Smelter. This makes pine harvesting important not only for building and crafting, but also for early metal progression.

A few practical notes make gathering it more efficient:

• Pine trees are the main source, so the Black Forest is the best place to farm it.
• Pine cones let you establish your own supply by planting pines with a Cultivator.
• Stumps still yield Corewood, so clearing the area thoroughly increases the return.
• It is useful to stockpile early, since multiple common recipes consume it in significant amounts.
