Overview

Plague is a small omnivorous creature found in Anteverse II. It moves by slowly hopping around a designated area, and some individuals remain stationary until disturbed. In the GATE compendium, it is described as an aggressive monopod that attacks prey with a highly extensible tongue, and it is notable for showing surprising intelligence and resourcefulness.

In combat, Plague uses a leap attack with a short effective range, roughly 3–4 storage crate lengths. The attack deals damage and can cause bleeding. Individually it is not very dangerous, but groups of three or more can overwhelm the player. In Apocalyptic mode, the leap becomes almost instantaneous after the windup, making timing much stricter and dodging much harder.

Useful responses depend on distance and timing:

  • Dodge by sidestepping just before it reels itself in.
  • Crouch with precise timing as soon as the attack animation begins.
  • Melee weapons work well after a successful dodge or crouch; blunt weapons deal more damage.
  • Ranged weapons are especially effective because Plague has very low health and can be killed almost instantly by weapons such as the Makeshift Crossbow.
  • A shield can block the attack.
  • An unarmed shove during its leap can knock it backward without taking damage.
  • A stun can set up a stomp kill and also enable capture.
  • Plague can be captured alive.

Captured Plague can be trapped and tamed using a Pest Trap or a Pheromone Flask, then fed 3 Nachos or Anteverse Wheat. Once tamed, it becomes friendly and can be ordered to follow the player as a companion or patrol randomly. Tamed Plague attacks anything hostile to the player, can be sent back to its cage, and can also be used to generate power in a Pest Wheel.

When harvested, Plague can drop Raw Pest and Raw Pest Rump, each with a 75% chance.
