The Clay Caves

Overview
The Clay Caves are one of the two biomes that surround the Undergrounds. They resemble the starting area in appearance, but their Clay Blocks are harder to mine and the region is populated by much more dangerous enemies. Tin is the most common metal found here, though Gold can also appear, and Ghorm the Devourer can be encountered in this biome.
The biome is notable for several core progression and exploration features. Normal water in the Clay Caves can be fished, but doing so requires at least 60 Fishing, which can be provided by a Tin Fishing Rod. The biome also contains terrain-based unique items and ore boulders, as well as specific scene variants tied to Clay Caves generation.
In practice, the Clay Caves are an early but hazardous step beyond the starting region. Their tougher walls slow down gathering and the local enemies are a major increase in threat, so players should come prepared with better tools and combat gear before digging too far. The area can also become more dangerous over time, as walls may gradually break down and allow several Big Larvae to appear.
- Expect Tin to be the most common metal, with Gold available as a rarer find.
- Bring at least 60 Fishing if you want to fish normal water here.
- Watch for wall collapse events that can release Big Larvae into the area.
- Ghorm the Devourer can be found in this biome.
