Overview

The Silo is a storage and distribution structure for Animal Food. It is crafted at the Crafting Table after obtaining Handling Licence Level 3 from Fletch, and it is used to keep feed on hand for nearby animal feeders.

To fill a Silo, stand at the front rectangular opening and deposit Animal Food into it. It can hold up to 200 Animal Food. When filling it from inventory, the bottom arrow can be used to insert the full amount of feed available or just the amount needed to top it off. The glass panels on the sides show how much feed remains inside.

A Silo automatically supplies any Animal Feeder within its range in the morning before animals eat. Its range is not affected by elevation, so feeders can be served even if they are not on the same height level as the Silo. The effective area extends 8 tiles outward from the southwest corner when facing north, giving it a 17×17 tile coverage area with the Silo centered in that space. Changing the Silo’s orientation does not change where feeders are filled from.

A few practical notes make it easier to use:

  • Place the Silo close enough to every feeder you want it to service, keeping its 17×17 effective area in mind.
  • Use the Tape Measure on it if you want to see its range visually; the Tape Measure works with other range-based objects as well.
  • If the Silo is picked up, all stored Animal Food drops to the ground and can be collected again.
  • Because it fills feeders automatically in the morning, it is most useful as a central feed station for managed animal pens.

The Silo is one of the most convenient ways to automate animal care, especially once a farm has multiple feeders spread across a pen or several nearby enclosures.
