Overview

Spore Pine is a neutral environmental block that appears as part of certain sector maps. It is a large tree-like flora feature found on sandy shorelines, often occurring in clusters near rivers and coastal areas. Spore Pines occupy tiles on the map and interact with pathing and placement: they block building placement and can influence choke points and defensive layouts by creating natural obstacles.

Spore Pines are part of the map's scenery and are not hostile or collectible. They persist until a player removes them by using the appropriate tool or weapon (for example, direct block-damage from turrets or the unit), and removing Spore Pines opens space for buildings, conveyors, power nodes, and defensive structures. Because they occupy tiles, Spore Pines frequently appear near valuable resource veins (Coal, Lead, Scrap Ore, Silicon deposits) and ruin sites; clearing them is often a necessary step when claiming ruins or establishing production near those veins.

Practical notes for handling Spore Pines and planning around them:

  • Clear Spore Pines early when expanding production or placing chokepoint defenses; their removal creates room for drills, conveyors, turrets, and power infrastructure.
  • When establishing defenses near coastlines or river chokepoints, account for Spore Pines as part of the terrain that can force enemies along predictable paths. Use the cleared space to build walls and turret lines (Hails, Scatters, Arcs/Scorches) as recommended for coastal sectors.
  • Ruins and core landing areas adjacent to Spore Pines often contain item-transport blocks and power nodes; remove nearby Spore Pines to access and integrate these structures into your base.
  • If enemy waves include units that traverse water or use multiple spawn points, clearing Spore Pines can simplify building placement for naval or river-crossing coverage and ensure unobstructed lines of fire for turrets targeting air and ground threats.
