Overview

Crevice is a terrain sector feature on Erekir that appears as narrow fissures or vents in the ground and functions as a natural formation affecting resource placement and building options. Crevices commonly form 3x3 patches and often contain or border deposits and steam vents; they are part of the planet’s distinctive surface geology where pools of Slag and Arkycite collect and volatile fluids rapidly evaporate. On Erekir, crevices contribute to the planet’s higher apparent temperature and dense atmosphere, and they interact with several planet-specific mechanics such as vents and heat generation.

Crevices are relevant to gameplay because they influence where certain blocks are placed and where resources spawn. Condensers and other structures that must be placed over vents or specific ground features are frequently built in or adjacent to crevices, making them focal points for early power setups and automated mining. The presence of crevices and vents concentrates resource nodes compared with more evenly distributed maps like Serpulo, which tightens early-game power and resource planning. Crevices also often coincide with pools of Slag and Arkycite; these deposits can be harvested by drills or Plasma Bores when exposed on the ground or in cliff veins.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Crevices commonly host steam vents that can be used with Turbine Condensers to generate heat or power; placing condensers over these vents is an efficient early power strategy on Erekir.
  • Resource distribution around crevices is more discrete and clustered than on Serpulo; plan higher-cost, higher-efficiency buildings accordingly because extracted output is greater but nodes are fewer and more concentrated.
  • Because many advanced factories and turrets on Erekir use fluids and heat, locating production lines near crevices/vents shortens piping and makes use of locally available steam or heat sources.
  • Crevices affect pathing and base layout: they create chokepoints and natural defenses but can limit flat buildable area, so adapt turret placement and duct routing (Ducts are faster on Erekir) to these gaps.
  • Steam and volatile fluids evaporate immediately on Erekir’s surface; use condensers or specialized blocks to capture atmospheric gases produced around crevices rather than relying on surface pools alone.
  • Many attack sectors on Erekir require mobile unit play; crevices and vents will shape where skirmishes occur and where to place forward extractor or defensive setups.
