Overview

Basin is a sector type encountered on the campaign map in Mindustry. As a sector, Basin represents a location players can enter to complete a wave or set of waves, and it functions like other sector nodes by hosting enemy waves, rewards, and map-specific terrain or hazards that affect how the player defends the core and deploys units.

Basin sectors commonly feature natural terrain and environmental hazards that apply various status effects to units. Players should expect interactions with tiles and projectiles that inflict burning, tarred, scorched, slowed, and other status effects; these effects alter unit speed, incoming damage, or cause damage-over-time and therefore shape defensive planning. Basin maps may include puddles, tar, molten tiles, or weather events that apply hidden or induced status effects—units can receive movement penalties, reduced effective health (via damage multipliers), or other temporary buffs/debuffs during waves.

Practical considerations when playing a Basin sector:

  • Build choke points and place turrets where natural hazards force enemies into predictable paths. Tar and mud tiles slow enemies and let area turrets and artillery apply sustained damage more effectively.
  • Remember health multipliers from status effects do not change a unit’s max HP value measured by logic; instead, incoming damage is divided by the multiplier after armor subtraction. Design defenses assuming status effects can effectively increase or decrease how much damage enemies take.
  • Use conveyors and adjacent-block output behavior to funnel resources and items: blocks that output can place items directly into touching blocks, so production chains and deployers placed near each other reduce the need for long conveyor runs.
  • Account for weather and special wave buffs. Some waves or bosses grant permanent or long-lasting wave status effects that increase enemy damage or health values; overdriven or boss units may be stronger and require heavier defenses or specific anti-armor weaponry.
  • Protect naval units or place them appropriately: some status effects (e.g., mud or tar) have no effect on naval units, while other map hazards specifically target airborne or ground units. Adjust unit composition to exploit immunities or avoid debilitating debuffs.
  • Combine slowing tiles (tar, mud) with high-damage area defenses or incendiary weapons to maximize damage-over-time effects and to stack affinities that extend or intensify status durations on enemies.

Approach Basin sectors by scouting map terrain and wave composition first, then laying out factories and defenses so that natural tiles and status effects work in your favor rather than against your base.
