Body Armor
Overview
Body Armor is the chest armor piece equipped in the armor slot to reduce damage taken. Like all armor in Necesse, it can be worn by the player, Settlers, and Raiders, and each point of armor reduces incoming damage by 0.5 health. Wearing it in a cosmetic slot does not provide any protection, so it only grants its defense while placed in the proper armor slot.
A full matching armor set grants a set bonus, and that bonus is often what defines a set’s intended class or playstyle. Different armor sets are tailored to different builds: some are aimed at Melee, Ranger, Mage, or Summoner classes, while others work for all classes. Several sets are early-game or mid-game progression pieces, and some are endgame Incursion armors with stronger defenses and more specialized bonuses.
Notable examples include Bloodplate, an early-game set focused on health regeneration and usable by all classes; Shadow, which is for Ranger and Mage; Mycelium, which is for Ranger and Summoner; and Glacial, which is for Melee and Summoner. Other sets are broader in use, such as Runic and Ivy, which support all four major classes, and Spiderite, Crystal, and Nightsteel, which are endgame Incursion armors for all classes. Nightsteel offers higher defense but less offense for Melee and Mage compared to Slime Armor Set, while Ravenlord’s is also an all-class endgame Incursion armor and provides the fastest movement speed.
Some armor sets have especially specific effects or acquisition methods. Witch armor is dropped by the Evil Witch and sold by the Friendly Witch after defeating an Evil Witch. Dusk armor is for Mage and Summoner, has the same base defense as Dawn, and causes the wearer to glow at night when the full set is equipped. Dawn armor mirrors Dusk’s base defense and is aimed at Melee and Ranged classes. Void armor is for Mage and Summoner, Frost armor is for Melee, Ranger, and Mage, and Cryo Witch armor is for Mage and Summoner.
Once Incursions are unlocked, armor pieces can be upgraded at an Upgrade Station to reach similar defense and stat bonus levels. This makes even weak early-game armor remain useful into late-game content, aside from differences in unique set bonuses. In practice, the best Body Armor choice depends on whether you want raw defense, class-specific bonuses, or a flexible set that can be upgraded later without being replaced immediately.
