Flower Pot

Overview
The Flower Pot is an early decorative building that lets plants be placed indoors for decor rather than food or farming utility. It is cheap to build, and its main limits are available space and available seeds. By itself, the Flower Pot does not contribute any Decor; the decoration comes from the plant placed in it. A sandstone Flower Pot with a Bluff Briar can provide a strong local decor bonus of +26 around it, and that bonus is enough to count as a “20+ decor item” for the Great Hall requirement.
Flower Pots are most useful early in the game, especially when placed beside buildings where duplicants spend time, such as cots, Research Stations, and Microbe Mushers. Putting one on either side of these work areas helps raise the decor value duplicants experience while they sleep or operate stations. Because the building is only 2 tiles tall, it can fit into tight spaces more easily than some later options.
In practice, Flower Pots are eventually outclassed by the Sculpting Block, which offers a wider decoration radius. The Flower Pot’s remaining advantage is mostly its compact height and its high decor value per object. It remains a convenient choice when you have spare seeds and want an inexpensive early decor solution.
- Flower Pots can be planted with decorative flora, and they are especially efficient when paired with plants that do not need fertilizer.
- Pips can plant seeds in Flower Pots if the pot is entombed in a natural tile, which removes the need for solid fertilizer. This is commonly used to grow plants at domesticated rates without normal planting requirements.
- Good candidates for this trick include Mealwood, Dusk Cap, Wheezewort, and Grubfruit Plant, since they do not require irrigation and normally rely on solid fertilizer.
- Plants that need irrigation can also be placed in Flower Pots through this method, but they still need to be irrigated by duplicants.
- If a Flower Pot is used for critter interaction, a tile must be built next to it so critters such as Dreckos can reach the plant, similar to a Planter Box setup.
- Copying the settings from one successfully planted pot lets you replicate the setup onto other Flower Pots without repeating the full process.
As with other plant-based decor setups, the Flower Pot is limited by seeds, plant requirements, and room layout more than by the building itself. It is best treated as a low-cost early game decor tool that can be upgraded later once more advanced decorative infrastructure becomes available.
