Heavi-Watt Conductive Wire
Overview
Heavi-Watt Conductive Wire is a high-capacity power wire used to connect heavy generators and carry more power than ordinary wire can handle. It is meant for electrical grids that would otherwise risk overload, especially when several strong generators are feeding the same network.
Unlike regular wire, Heavi-Watt Conductive Wire cannot share a cell with a tile or a door, so it cannot simply be run through walls. When a power line needs to pass through a wall, the usual solution is to replace the tile in that spot with a Heavi-Watt Conductive Joint Plate. This lets the grid continue through the structure while preserving the room layout around it.
The wire’s biggest drawback is its severe Decor penalty. Running long stretches of it through places where Duplicants live or work can quickly tank Morale and create Stress problems for the colony. Because of that, it is commonly routed through separated maintenance tunnels or other enclosed service corridors, keeping Duplicants away from direct contact with the wire while still allowing the generators to connect to one electrical grid. Another common approach is to hide the wire behind walls or doors, or to offset the penalty with Decor-producing construction such as Metal Tiles and statues. Using gold as the construction material reduces the Decor penalty by 50%.
A few practical notes make Heavi-Watt grids much easier to manage:
- It is best planned early, since the wire cannot simply be threaded through normal walls or doors after the fact.
- Joint Plates are the standard way to cross walls without breaking the electrical network.
- Hiding the wire in maintenance tunnels is usually safer than exposing it in living areas.
- If you must place it near Duplicants, use Decor compensation rather than relying on open access routes.
- It also has its own thermal behavior like other wires: wires of any kind have their material thermal conductivity divided by 20, which makes them relatively poor heat conductors compared with many solid building materials.
For temperature management, running power through tiles is generally preferable to running it through atmosphere, since the thermal interaction depends on the cell the wire occupies. This is especially relevant in compact industrial builds where heat leakage matters. In practice, Heavi-Watt Conductive Wire is less about elegance and more about infrastructure: it is the backbone for larger power systems, but it rewards careful routing and deliberate separation from your colony’s living spaces.
