Jumbo Battery

Overview

Jumbo Battery is a larger power storage building that holds more electricity than smaller batteries, letting systems run longer before needing to recharge. It is useful anywhere a long buffer of stored power is more important than compact size or advanced automation.

Because it stores more charge, Jumbo Battery is a straightforward way to extend the runtime of a power grid, especially in early or mid-game setups that do not yet rely on refined metals. It does not have an automation connection, but it can still be incorporated into controlled power systems with timers and transformer-based gates. This makes it viable for setups such as solar backup arrays, where it can reduce the number of batteries needed.

A few practical notes matter when using it:

  • Build Jumbo Batteries on the same circuit as the generators they are meant to buffer. If they are separated, generators will keep running even after the battery charge threshold is reached.
  • A common power layout is generation → Heavi-Watt WirePower Transformer, which helps avoid wire overload and reduces maintenance.
  • Although it has 5x runoff, 2.5x heat output, and lacks direct automation, it is not fully replaced by Smart Batteries because it requires no refined metals.

The appearance of all three battery types is based on the voltaic pile, the first practical battery, which used alternating zinc and copper discs stacked on top of one another.
