Flametal

Flametal is an Ashlands metal resource used for some of the region’s highest-tier equipment, tools, weapons, armor, and selected building pieces. It is a refined bar produced by smelting Flametal Ore in a smelter, and one bar takes 30 seconds to make.

Like other metals and ore in Valheim, Flametal cannot be moved through a normal portal and requires a Stone portal if it is to be transported safely. It also has a special legacy behavior from before the Ashlands update: Flametal that was obtained before the update converts into Ancient metal and remains unusable. Those old bars keep the Flametal item ID, while newly obtained bars use the FlametalNew ID.

Flametal is a major crafting material in the Ashlands progression. It is used for multiple black forge recipes, including the following:

• Berserkir Axes and their variants
• Several dagger-type weapons such as Ripper variants
• Several spear-type weapons such as Nidhogg variants
• Maces such as Flametal Mace, Bloodgeon, and related variants
• Shields, including Flametal Shield and Flametal Tower Shield
• Armor pieces such as Flametal chest armor, leggings, and helm
• The Ashen cape
• The Dyrnwyn sword
• Flametal Missile
• Additional Ashlands magic and melee gear

It is also used in a number of building and utility pieces. These include:

• Surtling Core-dependent siege and construction pieces such as the ram
• Catapult
• Flametal gate
• Heavy Flametal beam and pillar pieces
• Charred door
• Gem Cutter
• Metal Cutter
• Lava Lantern
• Bone throne

Because Flametal sits at the center of the Ashlands equipment tier, large quantities are needed if you want to fully outfit a character. Crafting one of each base Ashlands-tier equipment item requires 234 Flametal, with another 686 Flametal needed to fully upgrade them, for a total of 920. Crafting one of each magic variant base equipment item requires 300 Flametal, with another 909 Flametal needed for full upgrades, for a total of 1209.

In practice, Flametal is one of the last major resource gates in the game. Players usually stockpile it before committing to large-scale crafting or base building, since the same bar is demanded by both combat gear and specialized Ashlands structures.
