Overview

Storage Mk.II is a configurable storage building that provides a larger item buffer for factories and logistics layouts. Its stored amount is adjustable with the UI slider when the storage is opened, letting it serve as a flexible staging point rather than a fixed-capacity container. Like other storage buildings, it is sometimes compared to a storage chest from other factory games.

A key use for Storage Mk.II is to bridge belt-based production with bot-based distribution. Items can be inserted by Conveyor Belts and exported by Logistics Bots, or the other way around, without being limited by the throughput of a Sorters. This makes it useful wherever a line needs to absorb bursts of production, hold intermediate goods, or feed multiple consumers from a single stockpile. It is part of the logistics category and can be placed in builds where item handling needs to be decoupled from direct sorter timing.

Storage Mk.II is also notable for how it interacts with other logistics structures. Storage Mk.I can be built on top of a Splitter, and a Logistics Distributor can be built on both Storage Mk.I and Storage Mk.II, allowing compact transport setups that combine item routing and local buffering. This makes the storage line useful in dense factory designs where floor space is limited and where a storage point also needs to serve as a distribution node.

In practice, Storage Mk.II is most effective when used as:

  • a buffer between production and shipping, smoothing out short-term imbalances in supply and demand;
  • a collection point for items that are produced faster than they are consumed;
  • a handoff point between belts and bots, especially in layouts that rely on both transport systems;
  • a compact logistics hub when combined with a Logistics Distributor.

Compared with direct belt-to-machine feeding, Storage Mk.II trades immediacy for flexibility. It is less about maintaining a perfectly synchronized line and more about storing a working reserve that other systems can draw from as needed. Because its capacity is adjustable, it can be tuned to match the role it plays in a factory: a small reserve for steady throughput, or a larger stockpile for irregular supply chains and large-scale logistics.
