Undertaker

Overview
Undertaker is a playable Nightreign character class and NPC persona associated with funerary rites, apothecary practice, and bone-based sorceries. Presented visually as a hammer-wielding mortician who gathers the fallen
Guardian's feathers for their warmth, the Undertaker blends close-quarters blunt combat with supportive and self-buffing aromatics derived from perfumers’ traditions. She appears in promotional art and in-game as both a selectable character and as an NPC present at the Roundtable Hold when not chosen as the player character.
The Undertaker has roots in the perfumers’ craft once practiced in Leyndell: perfumers historically tended the impure and brewed physicks from Miranda Blossoms and crystal tears gathered around Minor Erdtrees. Mechanically, Undertaker’s playstyle reflects that heritage by combining hammer weaponry and aromatic effects — she begins with a hammer (the starting armament) and uses aromatics to create defensive bubbles and damage-modifying clouds in combat. Her movement with hammers has close visual and animation similarities to Radagon. Cosmetic variants include several garbs (Default, Remembrance, Dawn, Darkness, Darkmoon Knightess, Lord's Blade); the Dawn Garb reveals scars on her back consistent with self-flagellation imagery.
In combat, Undertaker centers on three signature systems. Her Character Skill, Trance (14s base cooldown), instantly refills stamina and grants an eight-second self-buff that raises damage negation, attack power, poise, sprint speed (no stamina cost), improved dodge follow-up, and haste effects; successive hits further ramp attack power during the buff. Trance can be empowered by consuming a full Ultimate Art Gauge to extend duration to 15 seconds, greatly boost attack, and grant automatic dodges. Her Ultimate Art, Loathsome Hex, is a long-range surge attack in which she extracts a spine and lunges at a target; it deals high damage that scales with character level and can be fired mid-air to close gaps rapidly. A passive Confluence ability enables the Undertaker to activate her Ultimate Art within a five-second window after an ally activates theirs, even if her own gauge is empty.
Undertaker’s regular offensive toolkit includes Spark Aromatic (two variants: a common wide attack that can be jumped over and a rarer long attack that can be sidestepped; the wide variant is often chained twice), a passive Block stance used at range, and Uplifting Aromatic, which deploys a lingering cloud that slightly increases allied damage while granting a periodic shield that reduces incoming damage for those remaining in the cloud. These aromatics reflect perfumers’ battlefield role of buffing allies and manipulating encounter space; perfumers are also known to produce poisons and explosives, and to work alongside High Pages who supply Perfumer’s Bolts.
Recommended play and interactions:
- Use Trance to initiate fights or recover from stamina drains; empower it with a full Ultimate Art Gauge when available to convert Undertaker into a high-output, evasive brawler for up to 15 seconds.
- Loathsome Hex is both a mobility and gap-closer tool; use it to finish staggered foes or cross long distances quickly, including mid-air approaches.
- Position Uplifting Aromatic to anchor allies in zones that provide both damage boosts and a recurring shield; the cloud’s shield benefits anyone who stays inside.
- Favor relics that enhance Ultimate Art activity, successive-attack scaling, and attack power on charge — top relic picks include effects that increase attack power after activating Ultimate Art, grant successive-attack scaling, and improve melee damage or art gauge gain.
- Chain Spark Aromatic wide attacks into normal combos to pressure foes; learn the long variant’s timing for predictable sidestep punishments.
Drops and locations associated with the perfumer/undertaker theme include apparel pieces (Perfumer Hood, Robe, Gloves, Sarong), Perfumer’s Shield, and crafting materials such as Budding Cave Moss, Altus Bloom, and Miranda Powder. Perfumer-themed enemies and bosses (for example Perfumer Tricia and the Depraved Perfumer variants) are found across Altus Plateau locations: Perfumer’s Grotto, Perfumer’s Ruins, Scadu Altus, Castle Front, and Leyndell, Royal Capital.
Undertaker’s stat tendencies emphasize vigor and endurance with moderate dexterity and mind at early levels; recommended builds exploit her melee-hybrid strengths and rely on dexterity/skill-supporting relics and gear. Her unique relic interactions improve offensive output when executing Ultimate Art, landing final blows in chains, and while incantation assist effects are active.
Localization note: her Japanese name is 葬儀屋 (literally “Funeral Director”), reflecting her role and aesthetic.
