Nightfarers

nightfarers

Overview

Nightfarers are the playable hero characters in Nightreign. Each Nightfarer is designed to deliver a distinct gameplay experience, coming with unique abilities, skills, and ultimate arts that define their playstyle. Nightfarers have different attribute scaling and begin an expedition with a custom set of starting equipment; Relics and other loadout choices must be set separately for each Nightfarer. Team composition and coordination are important for higher-difficulty encounters, since Nightreign emphasizes complementary roles and synergies between heroes.

Six Nightfarers are available by default, and two additional Nightfarers unlock as the story advances. Unselected Nightfarers appear as NPCs at the Roundtable Hold rather than being inaccessible choices; they relocate and offer new interactions between expeditions. Advancing a Nightfarer’s personal questline requires defeating specific Nightlords or completing designated Remembrance mission objectives. The active Nightfarer can be changed by ringing the Character Selection bell near the Table of Lost Grace. The player character’s cosmetic appearance is altered by equipping Garb (skins) at the Dresser; the Dresser and Garb unlocking are available after defeating the second Nightlord.

Character customization is limited compared with traditional Origins: the custom character slider is not included in Nightreign, so faces and bodies of Nightfarers cannot be reshaped in-game. Cosmetic variety is provided through unlockable Garb only. The selected Nightfarer remains silent during story conversations. When heroes are downed in combat they can be revived from Near-Death states if teammates deal sufficient revive damage.

Nightfarers are generally named for class archetypes rather than unique given names; examples shown in promotional and in-game art include Duchess, Guardian, Ironeye, Wylder, Recluse, Executor, Raider, and Revenant. These exemplify the range of roles (melee tanks, evasive rogues, ranged specialists, etc.) represented among the roster.

Practical notes for use and party planning:

  • Each Nightfarer must have their Relics and loadout configured independently prior to an expedition; swapping Nightfarers does not carry over preset Relic choices.
  • Build around synergies: some Nightlords have clear elemental or status vulnerabilities (for example, some Nightlords are vulnerable to Holy, Fire, Lightning, Poison, Sleep, or Madness), so tailor the team’s damage types and support skills to exploit those weaknesses.
  • Progressing Nightfarer questlines often requires specific Nightlord encounters or completing Remembrance objectives, so recruit and switch Nightfarers with those goals in mind.
  • Cosmetic changes to a Nightfarer are cosmetic only and are unlocked through in-game progression milestones rather than a face/body editor.
  • Downed heroes are recoverable in combat if allies can deal the required revive damage before a full death occurs; prioritize revival support in coordinated teams.

Visual and promotional materials for Nightfarers show the roster and individual icons and renders for the known heroes (Duchess, Executor, Guardian, Ironeye, Raider, Recluse, Revenant, Wylder), which correspond to their archetypal roles and abilities in gameplay.
