Fissure in the Fog (Everdark Sovereign)

Boss type
Everdark Sovereign

Overview

Fissure in the Fog (Everdark Sovereign) is the Everdark Caligo variant encountered as the second phase of her original boss fight. The encounter begins when Everdark Caligo transitions into this form at roughly half health, and the variant alters her defenses and battlefield hazards to pressure the player and nearby Nightfarers.

Upon entering the form she immediately encases herself in a layer of ice that reduces incoming damage by 50% while active. The ice armor functions as a damage mitigation buff rather than an additional health pool. Repeated application of fire damage chips away at the armor; sufficient fire damage will shatter the ice, remove the damage reduction buff, and cause Everdark Caligo to adopt the same lowered defense profile she had in her original form. The ice-encased phase therefore creates a clear counterplay loop: apply sustained fire to negate the armor, or adapt to the halved damage window until it expires or is broken.

Everdark Caligo uses environmental and area-denial attacks during this form. She can summon a large ice crystal that spikes from the ground before detonating. The detonated crystal spawns an expanding blue whirlwind that subsequently coalesces into a widescale blizzard. The blizzard persists for 30 seconds and inflicts constant frostbite buildup on Nightfarers who remain within its area. The whirlwind and following blizzard create layered zones of threat that force repositioning and can rapidly accumulate frostbite if ignored.

  • Ice armor halves all damage taken while active. Prioritize fire-based attacks or weapons with fire scaling to break the armor quickly and return the fight to its original defensive state.
  • The ice crystal attack precedes a blue whirlwind and then a large blizzard. Move out of the crystal’s impact zone to avoid being trapped by the expanding whirlwind.
  • The blizzard lasts 30 seconds and applies continuous frostbite buildup. Avoid prolonged exposure to prevent heavy frostbite penalties and to maintain offensive pressure.
  • Treat the invulnerability-like buff as temporary mitigation rather than additional HP. If fire damage is limited, adapt by focusing on dodging and conserving resources until the armor is removed.
  • Manage positioning to prevent multiple party members or summoned Nightfarers from being caught in the blizzard’s full duration, since frostbite buildup accumulates while staying inside the storm.

The Fissure in the Fog (Everdark Sovereign) phase changes the pacing of the confrontation by combining strong passive damage reduction with persistent environmental frost hazards. Effective use of fire damage and careful spatial management of the blizzard are the primary ways to neutralize the variant’s defensive and area-denial advantages.
