Tricephalos (Everdark Sovereign)

Boss type
Everdark Sovereign

Overview

Tricephalos (Everdark Sovereign) is an enhanced, three-headed variant of the Gladius encounter that appears during the Nightreign. The fight begins with the three heads acting as separate entities that share the same attack and defense debuffs when struck by Holy damage. At roughly 75% health the three heads merge into a single form and enter the Everdark phase, gaining a new moveset and dramatically increased damage output. When reduced to around 25% health the sovereign can split and re‑merge, adding a fast rushing attack to its repertoire.

The Everdark transformation opens with a massive, sky‑spanning explosion similar to Heolstor’s second‑phase aperture. The blast has extreme range and power; the simplest counter is to put substantial distance between player and boss immediately when the animation begins, particularly for ranged Nightfarer builds. Shortly after transforming Tricephalos can perform a triple long‑range charge that covers large distances very quickly and can catch players who try to kite without a gap closer. When split, each head can execute an enhanced trample/charge attack akin to Fulghor’s rushes; these individual charges are faster and hit harder than the original Gladius charges.

Survivability is the priority in this fight because Everdark Tricephalos’ increased damage allows it to two‑shot even high‑Vigor characters. Players should emphasize Holy damage sources and Holy‑infused weapons to exploit the boss’ weakness; Holy attacks also apply the shared debuff that benefits team damage. Defensive passives and armor that increase damage negation are highly valuable—effects such as damage reduction while at full HP or mechanics that negate damage from successive hits reduce the chance of being burst down during the Everdark phase.

Practical notes and tactics:

  • When the merge begins, immediately back away or use instant teleports; the opening explosion is avoidable only by distance. Ranged Nightfarers must treat the nuke as a hard reset moment.
  • Build resistance to high single strikes and fire damage mitigation where possible, since many of the boss’ attacks deal heavy Fire damage and some shields have low fire‑negation.
  • During the triple charge and individual head charges, be ready to dash sideways or use invincibility frames from class abilities to pass through the attack. Charging enemies cover ground extremely fast—do not chase recklessly.
  • Characters that favor distance (Ironeye style) perform well: surrounding and kiting with spacing allows repeated safe punishment. Three coordinated Ironeye players can clear the encounter with relative ease.
  • Guardians should exercise caution with shield reliance due to Fire damage; instead prioritize passives and timing for blocking usage.
  • Raiders and melee classes benefit from defensive tool usage: employ Retaliate to tank unavoidable strikes and use Totem Stela invincibility frames to bypass high‑damage windups. The Totem Stela also provides a temporary safe platform where Tricephalos has reduced ability to hit you, allowing healing or repositioning.
  • Keep a mix of gap closers and escape tools on melee builds; Tricephalos’ rapid long‑distance charges punish slow pursuit.

Adapting equipment and passive choices to increase overall damage negation and to exploit the boss’ Holy weakness is the most reliable route to survival and victory against Tricephalos (Everdark Sovereign).
