Augur (Everdark Sovereign)

Boss type
Everdark Sovereign

Overview

Augur (Everdark Sovereign) is an enhanced, weekly-rotating Nightlord boss variant encountered in Nightreign Expeditions. It appears only while its Everdark Sovereign rotation is active and cannot be challenged in offline play. Players must first defeat the standard Nightlord form of the same expedition before they become eligible to face the Everdark Sovereign version. Everdark Sovereigns grant Sovereign Sigils when defeated and introduce new phases, stronger attacks, and unique mechanics that force different tactics than the base Nightlord encounter.

The Augur Everdark encounter begins with a reduced, Augur-labeled opening phase that matches the Augur raid version: lower HP, a smaller moveset that includes a splashing wave and a dash attack, and no tentacles or jellyfish targets. Killing this opening Augur immediately drops a legendary +3 version of the chosen Nightfarer's starting weapon; this weapon is imbued with the unique skill Storm Ruler. Shortly after the drop the true Everdark form—referred to in sources as Everdark Maris—descends and begins the main fight.

Everdark Maris emphasizes the Storm Ruler weapon skill as the primary damage tool. Storm Ruler fires horizontal physical/magic hybrid beams on quick use; holding the weapon skill begins a charge that slowly restores FP while reducing movement and stamina recovery, and a fully charged state (5 seconds) empowers the weapon with a persistent blue aura. The subsequent use from a fully charged state releases a potent vertical wave capable of enormous damage and long-range reach, effective even when Maris drifts across the battlefield.

Everdark Maris notable attacks and mechanics:

  • Bubble projectiles that track players, stick to the ground, and explode for magic damage; these bubbles can be destroyed midair by Storm Ruler projectiles.
  • A curled levitation state that emits an aura gradually building Sleep on all players; interrupt this build-up with a fully charged Storm Ruler shot.
  • At roughly half health Maris spawns five orbiting orbs that intermittently fire lasers at each player; each orb can be destroyed by Storm Ruler projectiles, and destroying all orbs staggers Maris for several seconds.
  • Late-fight tidal wave attacks that move slowly but deal continuous damage to anyone caught inside; Maris can chain these attacks at lower HP thresholds.

Rewards and progression: first-time victory over an Everdark Sovereign awards 25 Sovereign Sigils, while subsequent defeats yield 5–7 Sigils. Sovereign Sigils are exchangeable at the Collector Signboard for exclusive Relics, Garbs, Chalices, and other rare items. Each Everdark Sovereign defeat also unlocks a powerful "Dark Night" Relic purchasable from the Collector. The Augur Everdark drop of a legendary +3 Nightfarer weapon with the Storm Ruler skill is a predictable and crucial part of the encounter.

Practical strategy and loadout considerations:

  • Because the fight supplies a legendary Storm Ruler weapon early, inventory choices should prioritize relics and passives that increase Storm Ruler damage or overall survivability rather than raw weapon scaling.
  • Equip Relics that boost skill attack power, physical and magic attack power, or general attack power buffs tied to Nightreign conditions (for example, effects that trigger after defeating Night Invaders or evergaol prisoners).
  • If using Relics that require matching weapon classes, prioritize matching the Nightfarer starting weapon class so the Storm Ruler weapon fulfills requirements.
  • Shifting Earth selections that aid team survival or revival (for example, auto-revive or max HP increases) are generally superior to those that focus on elemental interactions the fight rarely uses.

Recommended character roles and utilities:

  • Healer/revenant archetypes that can sustain the team and provide clutch revives are highly valuable; Ultimate Arts that revive or restore full HP are particularly effective.
  • Guardians and other defensive characters who can deflect projectiles or provide reliable heals add stability to the fight.
  • Damage-oriented characters benefit greatly from coordinated use of the Storm Ruler weapon and from relics that raise skill damage or both physical and magic attack power.

Additional notes:

  • Everdark Sovereigns are highlighted in the Expeditions menu and use a distinct encounter pool for end-of-night bosses; the active Everdarks rotate weekly and multiple Everdarks may be available simultaneously.
  • With the Deep of Night mode, an expedition’s final boss can randomly be an Everdark version on Depth 2 or higher; this will be revealed later in the run at the Spirit Shelter on Day 3.
